East Fife would love to keep Anton Dowds at Bayview

Dowds is on the radar of full-time clubs with the Fifers doing what they can to swat them away.

The young striker has made a terrific impact at League One level after stepping up from the East of Scotland League a couple of seasons ago.

The former Heriot Watt striker has consistently found the net for the Methil men since arriving, and Young will do what he can to keep him at the club.

But he admits the lure of getting into the game full-time may be too strong to fight against.

“I’ve spoken to Anton and he wants to leave his options open,” said the East Fife boss.

“He has a few teams after him but we would love to have him back here.

“He’s done great, the fans love him and he’s a big favourite in the dressing room as well.

“He’s a lovely guy and very down to earth but if it is this season he goes full-time then so be it, he’ll go with our best wishes.

“But, at the same time, we’re still trying to keep him on board.”

• The SPFL Trust has announced that all 42 SPFL clubs have successfully applied for a grant from the charity’s Covid-19 Crisis Fund, and payments are being processed at the moment.

Each club will receive £50,000.

This new fund was established to support clubs and their communities after James Anderson, a fund manager and partner at investment firm Baillie Gifford, gifted the SPFL Trust £3,125,000 inclusive of gift aid to support Scottish football at this time of crisis.
