NEW East Fife boss Willie Aitchison says his immediate priority at Bayview is speaking with last season’s play-off winners.

Despite a raft of names being linked to the club, the manager wants to speak first with last season’s now out of contract players.

Former Hearts striker Christian Nade is believed to have agreed terms with the side, while Portugese under-20 Zeze Gomes and former Hearts defender Ismael Bouzid have been linked with the club.

But it will be far from the complete and radical shake-up at Bayview some have suggested, with the manager also intending to speak to several former top team players.

Speaking to the Mail on Monday, Aitchison said: “The ambition that people have needs to be tempered.

“Things are on-going and I have a project with the board to improve East Fife – but that has to be done on a budget.

“My priority at the minute it to try to look after the existing players and see what their thoughts are.

“We also have an existing squad of under 20s who we want to develop.”

The new manager says he had an opportunity to see the Fifers in action a couple of times last season due to his son working with East Fife physio Brian McNeill.

Despite their lowly finishing position, the manager feels there is plenty to work with at Bayview.

“Billy Brown took over the club in a difficult situation midway through the season but used every ounce of his experience to keep them in a league which now has the likes of Rangers in it,” he said.

“There are players at East Fife that are very, very good quality.

“We have another couple of weeks before we’re back in for pre-season but we’re really busy behind the scenes, having a look at what we need so we’re ready for the players coming back in.”
