EAST Fife’s pre-season campaign showed real signs of progress in this 3-1 win over Dunfermline.
With Gordon Durie’s trialists already having had two games to get to know each other, the side looked a class apart from that which went down 4-0 to St Johnstone.
East Fife looked sharp from the kick-off.
Scott Durie attacked Dunfermline’s left flank at will and was unlucky to see his cross to Gareth Wardlaw cut out.
Former Fifer Ryan Wallace was looking to make a mark against his former team-mates, following some light-hearted Twitter ribbing during the week.
The striker pulled a save out of Michael Brown early in the game, with the ‘keeper having to beat his away his drive.
A couple of East Fife players were up against their old side and looked as if they had a point to prove.
One of those, Scott McBride, skimmed the top of the net with a free-kick.
The Fifers took the lead when Collin Samuel was picked out at the back post by David Muir and he sent his header past Dunfermline ‘keeper Graeme Smith.
But the lead didn’t last too long and the Pars found themselves on level terms when Durie, under pressure from Ryan Thompson, sent the ball into his own net.
East Fife were fit and sharp and the pre-season training sessions looked to be paying off, with Durie continuing to get joy down the wing and Darren Smith and Muir bossing the midfield.
Durie made up for his earlier error when he equalised shortly before the break by sending a 25-yard effort in off Smith’s post.
Substitute Sean Jamieson was unlucky not to add a third when his effort was cleared off the line, before the trialist did eventually put the game beyond Dunfermline when he sent a looping effort over a trialist ‘keeper.
Liam Buchanan and Alex Whittle both had chances to haul the Pars back into the game but Durie’s side held on for a fine victory.
