Bayview skipper Craig Johnstone says his side need to get over the weekend defeat to Hamilton and focus on their Forfar test.

The Methil men rounded off their pre-season with the loss as the game finished as a contest within the first 10 minutes.

Hamilton netted three times in that quick spell with the Fifers out of sorts.

Despite the result East Fife have had a good pre-season campaign with worthwhile workouts against Wolves and Kilmarnock under their belts.

With the competitive campaign now only a few days away, the club captain says his side can do a lot better than they showed at the weekend.

Speaking after the game, Johnstone said: “The boys were a bit tired but that’s not really an excuse.

“We lost three goals in about nine minutes but did a wee bit better after that

“We know we’re capable of better than that so it was disappointing.

“We just need to draw a line under it now.”

Attention turns to the return of the competitive season when the Fifers travel to Station Park to face Dick Campbell’s Forfar.

Johnstone said the side can’t wait to get their teeth into the new campaign.

He said: “We’ll train hard on Tuesday and Thursday and then really look to get going against Forfar and hopefully get through to the next round of the cup.

“Any game in the second division is difficult and they’re a second division club.

“But I’m confident if we can play the we did in the first couple of friendlies then we can go through.

“It would be good for the club to get a run in the cup as well.”

Following Saturday’s game East Fife will stay on cup duty the following Saturday when they face Morton in the League Cup at Bayview.

Kick off for the tie is at 3.00p.m.
