EAST Fife boss Willie Aitchison says he’s happy with how his preparations for the forthcoming season are shaping up.

The manager this week added defender Gary Thom, midfielder Johnny Stewart and ‘keeper Michael Andrews to his squad and set up the side’s first friendly.

The Bayview men will travel to face Alloa Athletic on Saturday, July 6.

Several of last season’s squad are also expected to be announced as having penned new terms as the week progresses, with defender Craig Johnstone and midfilder Scott McBride amongst the first to sign on for the 2013-14 campaign.

Speaking to the Mail on Monday, the Bayview boss said: “We’re there or there abouts now.

“We’re still speaking to a few players and Kevin (Drinkell, East Fife assistant) is out today to see what they can give us.

“I’m very happy with where we are.

“We’ve spoken to the majority of players at the club, but with holidays, haven’t quite got that all done yet.”

Discussing new signing Thom, the manager says he reckons he’s the sort of player that can improve while at Bayview.

He said: “He’s a young lad, but is a player who already has quite a bit of experience playing for Stirling Albion.

“He’s somebody I’ve known from old and I think there’s a lot more to come from him and there’s a lot we can do with him.

“He’s another who has holidays booked so we wanted to move quickly.”

On the re-signing of Johnstone, the manager said the amount of end of the season prizes won by the defender indicated what he still had to offer the side.

“I had a really good meeting with him and he showed a real determination and spoke about how he wants to progress,” added the boss.
