Eddys Bar AFC plan Benidorm trip if they win Scottish Amateur Sunday Trophy final

The players and management of Kirkcaldy-based Eddys Bar AFC are celebrating reaching the Scottish Amateur Sunday Trophy final against either Fauldhouse United Sundays or Caledonian Spartans, who are contesting their semi-final this weekend.

Eddys Bar enjoyed a 2-0 semi-final victory over Brighill AFC at Ochilview Park on Sunday to reach the showpiece – which has been provisionally pencilled in to be played on Sunday, May 17 at Falkirk Stadium - with their goals coming via a first minute effort by Liam MacDuff and a last minute penalty from Liam Hart.

Eddys Bar manager Steven Hutchison, a 42-year-old who used to play as goalkeeper for the side before becoming gaffer when it was reformed four years ago, told the Fife Free Press: “It’s unbelievable reaching the final. The boys are all up for it.

"This is the best team I've been involved with either playing or managing. We’ve all got each others’ backs.

"If we manage to win the final the boys will be booking a holiday.

"It might not go down well with all the wives, but it’s happening!

"I don't know where we’ll end up going, maybe Benidorm.”

Well wishers for Eddys Bar AFC online included Alastair Marshall who posted on Facebook: “What an achievement by Eddys, a massive congratulations, next step the final, well done.”

A fine season for Eddys Bar – who play their home matches at Beveridge Park – also sees them looking a great bet to finish top of the pile in this term’s Fife Sunday Amateur Football League Premier Division.

They have won 14 and drawn one of their 15 league fixtures so far in this campaign, at time of going to press giving them a five-point lead over second-placed Townhill Villa who have played four more matches.

This is a remarkable achievement given the fact that the club didn’t exist as recently as five years ago after being disbanded, before Hutchison took on the reins in the dugout.

And, after a series of near misses in the league in recent seasons – they have finished runners-up in each of the previous three campaigns - 2025-2026 finally looks like the one where they will finish top of the pile.

"We didn’t have a team for a couple of years before I started it up again four years ago,” Hutchison added.

"The first year back we had discipline problems and that's probably what cost us winning the league before.

"But this year I've not had any of that.

"We’ve come second in the league every year and this is definitely our best chance of winning it.”

A lopsided league table – partly because of Eddys Bar’s runs in various cup competitions – they are also still in the League Cup and the Fife Sunday Trophy – means that Hutchison’s men have played fewer league matches than several of their rivals.

The 17-team league’s format involves each club playing each other twice before a split into a top eight and a bottom nine for the final matches of the campaign.

Eddys Bar are still on for a sensational quadruple.
