Edinburgh Utd 4-1 Thornton Hibs

Perhaps they were just getting into the spirit of things, but Thornton Hibs chose Halloween to turn in a horror show of a performance at Paties Road.

Unfortunately, there wasn’t much evidence of either tricks or treats for the local side.

Playing with an extremely strong wind behind their backs, it was United who took the lead in the 17th minute when Stephen Scott powerfully headed home Ryan Sclater’s cross.

Had the Hibs been able to restrict the capital side’s lead to just one at half-time then they might’ve fancied their chances in the second-half, however, goals in the 40th and 44th minutes put paid to those hopes.

First up, Sclater turned provider again with a free-kick that found the net via the head of Taylor Black and then Scott shot low into the bottom corner.

It was all over bar the shouting in the 64th minute when Darren McCraw made it four although Jack Wilson reduced the deficit to three two minutes later when he converted fellow substitute Fergus Mackie’s low cross from close range.

The Hibs day of woe was complete on the 70th minute when Liam Rolland was harshly red-carded for a tackle on McCraw that many thought barely merited yellow.
