Fife boss disappointed by cup draw

The Fifers have been paired with Alloa next month, away from home, in the north section of the competition.

However, there was no disrespect intended towards the League One leaders, who inflicted East Fife’s first defeat of the campaign on Saturday.

Naysmith simply meant he’d have preferred not to meet a team East Fife will already be playing four times this season in the league.

With higher-division oppostion such as Hibernian, Dunfermline, Falkirk, Raith Rovers and Dundee United also in the hat, Naysmith said it was a little exasperating to miss out on the chance of playing one of them in front of a hopefully good-sized crowd.

He said it was not a case of East Fife fearing Alloa – or Alloa fearing the Fifers. It was just the fact they were guaranteed three more matches with each other this season, and he indicated that Alloa manager Jack Ross agreed with him.

However, regardless of the luck, or otherwise, of the draw, the game is due at the Indodrill Stadium at 3pm on Saturday, September 3.
