Fife derby serves up eight goal thriller

Dundonald travelled the short distance to Hill of Beath looking to gain three points and keep themselves in the top half of the table.

The visitors got off to the worst possible start when Beath scored, with a header, from their first attack.

Dundonald then found themselves two down when a cross in from the right was turned into the net.

Although they were two down it was Dundonald who had all the possession and were playing the best football.

Midfielder Derek Wallace gave Dundonald a lifeline when his a super shot from the edge of the box flew into net.

The visitors could have been level before the break but Beath somehow managed to clear Forbes goal bound header off the line.

Within five minutes of the restart Dundonald drew level when McKenzie’s turn and shot found the net.

It was all Dundonald at this stage and it was no surprise when Forbes gave them the lead with a header. McKenzie got his second and Dundonald’s fourth when he turned Young’s cross into the net.

The Haws were stunned by the visitors comeback but they pulled a goal back when Dundonald again failed to clear their lines.

A corner for Beath resulted in a goal line scramble,and the referee ruled that the ball had crossed the line to bring the Haws back on level terms.

Dundonald had the last two chances off the match but Gray’s shot went over and McKenzie was denied by a fine save in the last minute.

After throwing away a 4-2, this felt like a defeat for Dundonald, who will hope to get back to winning ways when they host bottom of the table Newtongrange Star on Saturday.
