Fife derby shoot-out victory sends Raith into Fife Cup final

Both sides fielded an under 20 team from their Development League squads and after the 90 minutes finished in a 1-1 draw, Rovers won the penalty shoot-out to progress to this year’s final.

Raith development coach Craig Easton’s starting line-up consisted of a 15 and 16-year-old, with the remainder all aged either 17 or 18.

Dunfermline’s starting line had the notable inclusion of Farid El Alagui up front, with the ex-Hibs and Falkirk striker looking to win a deal at East End Park, and former Cowdenbeath and Inverness Caledonian Thistle holding mifielder Nat Wedderburn as the over-aged players in the Pars line-up.

There was a blow for Raith early on when striker Yaw Osei, a regular feature on the first team bench this season, limped off after a challenge that left him on crutches.

The deadline was broken in the 28th minute when El Alagui sent a looping header into the Rovers goal for the lead.

Rovers equaliser arrived in the 54th minute when Trialist no.14 fired low into the corner after a run across the 18-yard line.

The match went to penalties and goals from Dave McKay, Jonny Court, James Berry and Ryan Stevenson secured victory for Raith.

An impressive crowd of 500 applauded the young Rovers team off, who will meet Burntisland Shipyard in the final later this season.
