Having seen their male counterparts lift the League two trophy at Bayview on Saturday, the women were back in league action against Falkirk on Sunday.

With Fraser, Tennant and McCready all missing, the Fifers handed deserved starts to Dawson and Wheatley, and they rose to the challenge.

The Fifers suffered a severe blow when captain and top scorer Teri Skivington took a really bad knock to her back, and having tried to run it off, was replaced by Penman after 25 minutes.

Having reshuffled, it was the Fifers who almost found themselves behind. Falkirk cut in from the right and hit the left hand post, with the rebound falling to the striker she hit the right hand post, and with the ball almost across the line, returning keeper Walas made a great save to keep it out.

Wheatley broke the deadlock when she fired low and hard into the bottom corner.

Having taken a few knocks in the game, she was clearly delighted to have opened the scoring and celebrated in style.

Further chances fell to Penman and McAllister, but the second goal did finally come.

After good pressing from Wheatley and Guppy, Guppy stole the ball from the Falkirk right back and cut the ball back to the edge of the box, for a thunderous first time strike from Clark.

Boss Liz Anderson said: “We were missing a number of players today, but I said to the girls that the reason we have a squad with the strength and depth that we have was for days like today.

“It isn’t always easy keeping everyone happy, but our title push will take every single girl in our squad to be at their best whenever they are called upon, and the girls showed that today.

“We are aiming to match our male counterparts this season, and have both our men’s and women’s squads winning their respective leagues. “

East Fife will be away to Stonehaven next Sunday.
