Player-boss Gary Naysmith was quite clear about the objective as the side aimed to pick itself up from the first league defeat of the season on Saturday to leaders Alloa.

The Fifers are coming home after three successive encounters on the road, but Naysmith said more than anything else, he was simply glad to have another game.

The nature of Saturday’s loss was still a little hard for the Fifers to take, as they felt the first goal was down to a refereeing decision, although Naysmith accepted Alloa’s second was a bad goal to lose.

However, he believed the Fifers had finished the stronger side and could maybe even have snatched it, had they not run out of time.

This week, they would have to work in training to remedy a few errors, he said, adding: “When you get beaten, there will have been stuff you didn’t do so well in the game, so you need to rectify it.”

Saturday’s opponents are Brechin City and Naysmith indicated he had some admiration for what boss Darren Dods had achieved recently with the Angus side.

They had conceded only one goal in three league matches, so it would be “a difficult game”.

However, East Fife had made a fairly solid start too and had a good record at home, added Naysmith.

Pat Slattery and Chris Duggan remain doubtful, while the knocks taken by other players on Saturday would be assessed during the week.
