First half rout helps Rovers retain Fife Cup

Rovers recorded an excellent 3-1 victory over Fife Amateur Football League rivals, AM Soccer, from Cupar.

The match, between two of the top amateur sides in north east Fife, was expected to be a thriller - and it didn’t disapoint.

After an evenly contested first half hour, Rovers stunned AM Soccer with a three goal blitz that saw them go in 3-0 up at the break.

Lee Allan was first to strike, with an opportunist effort from 25 yards, catching the AM Soccer keeper far enough off his line to find the fop corner of the net.

Rovers doubled their advantage soon after when Craig Cameron let fly from just inside the 18 yard box and sent a blistering drive into the net to make it 0-2.

As half time approached, Rovers dealt the shell-shocked AM Soccer defence another blow when Lee Allan doubled his tally with another fantastic goal.

The young striker gathered the ball on the right and, from the corner of the penalty box,

Allan lashed the ball across the keeper and into the net to put Rovers 0-3 up.

The second half saw Rovers defend their advantage as AM threw everything at them in an attempt to salvage the tie but only managed a late counter on the night.

The referee’s final whistle sparked celebrations in the Rovers camp as they successfully defended their Fife Amateur Cup title, having ended a 76 year wait, last season, to bring the trophy to Pittenweem.

It was a tremendous night for Rovers manager, Gordon Muir, club captain, Neale Smith and the entire squad who had all contributed to the success.

In an added bonus for the club, Rovers striker, Lee Allan deservedly received the man of the match award for his performance.
