Forbes at the double as Glens defeat Tayport


Glenrothes made one change from last week’s win over Kennoway with Russell replacing Hamill.
Glens got off to an energetic start when a long range shot from Napier slipped past the post.

Hide AdForbes looked lively in the eighth minute when, after a surging run, his shot from 30 yards struck the crossbar.


Napier was next up when, after a neat turn, his shot was inches away.
Glens ‘keeper Small was brought into action when he stopped Liam Ross’ shot and was quick to stop the follow up from Dale Reid.
Glens were in the ascendency as a free kick from Russell was headed wide by Napier, before a long range shot was diverted for a corner.

Hide AdFrom the resultant delivery, Moffat headed powerfully home only to have the official disallow the goal for an unrelated foul in the box.


On the half hour mark a free kick from Forbes was prevented from entering the net by a fine save from Sorley.
Tayport came close when a shot from Reid was well saved by Small.
Glenrothes made the breakthrough just before half-time when a fine move by Anderson was neatly finished when Forbes rolled the ball into the corner of the net.

Hide AdNo changes were made by either team at half-time and after the restart, a long kick from Small was headed on by Martin but Sorley came off his line quickly to save the day.
Tayport fought to get themselves back into the match but an effort from Geekie was cleared off the line.
Gavin Moffat came close when his header was pulled out of the air by Sorley.
Glens conceded a free kick 25 yards from goal which was well defended by the Tayport backline.

Hide AdSean McManus made a great run and got his cross in where McDonald was unlucky to see his header strike the post.
In the scramble to get the ball clear Tayport conceded a penalty from which Forbes calmly converted to seal the points for Glens.
Cooper replaced Napier with a few minutes left and came close when his effort slipped past the post.
A fine result from Glenrothes to take into next week’s Scottish Cup match against Hill of Beath Hawthorn at Warout with a 2.30 p.m kick off.
