Thornton Hibs have started off the new season in the North Division in fine style with a draw and a win in their first two games.

The Memorial Park side kicked off the season away to Kennoway Star Hearts and came back with a point after a thrilling 3-3 draw which in all probability they should have won.

They got off to the perfect start as last season’s top scorer, Garry Thomson, carried on from where he’d left off by claiming the opener in the 9th minute.

On 28 minutes Kennoway were on level terms when Chris Lornie’s low curling drive found its way into the net. Three minutes later the same man put KSH in front following terrible defending.

Into the second-half Thornton were awarded a penalty in the 50th minute after Lee Bremner was alleged to have impeded Stevie Leslie but the normally reliable Adam Drummond blazed his effort over.

Eventually the equaliser came in the 57th minute when Mathew Gay displayed great tenacity to keep the ball in play and his cut back was perfect for the skipper, Ian Hepburn, to slot home.

Stevie Leslie put Hibs ahead in the 65th minute and just as it looked like the visitors would be claiming all three points KHS grabbed an 89th minute equaliser through Ian Boylan who slammed the ball home after it had rebounded off the upright.

Back at Memorial Park, Hibs claimed their first win of the season with a convincing 4-1 win over Scone Thistle.

Stevie Leslie hit a quick-fire double just before half-time; his first was a close range volley following Chris Ireland’s corner-kick and his second just two minutes later, was a back post header from Adam Drummond’s deep cross.

Nick McGowan’s 71st minute left foot strike from range – his first in 52 appearances for the Hibs – put the team three up but Scone deservedly pulled one back through Jamie Ayton.

With four minutes remaining though, substitute Ross Morgan sealed victory for Thornton who, eased into third spot in the table.
