Frustration for Glenrothes boss but health remains his priority

There’s a sense of frustration with not being able to play – but health is far more important.

That’s the message from Glenrothes co-manager John Martin as the club finds itself in lockdown along with the rest of the country due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Martin said: “We’re obviously in limbo right now, we don’t know what the outcome is going to be with the league. We’re in the dark.

Obviously the players are doing their own bit by trying to keep fit. They’ve got to do their own thing.

“They’re a great bunch of boys and I’m sure they’ll do that. They’ll keep themselves ticking over so when the league decides we can play they’ll be raring to go again.

“It’s a nightmare but first and foremost we have to look after the players’ health and that of their families.”

The league season came to a close with the Glens sat in third spot, but Martin says he’s no idea when the season will resume – or if at all.

“Kevin (Smith, co-manager) and I are just concentrating on the playing side of things at the moment,” Martin says.

“I’ve spoken to other clubs and they’re in the same position as we are. I don’t think the East of Scotland League is giving too much away with regards to what’s happening. Every club is in the same boat.

“Everyday we’re hearing something different. That’s the problem. There’s no set date when something is going to happen. You’re getting little dribs and drabs and everything is just up in the air.

“You hear things from other clubs but there’s never been a statement with a set date when we might start back.

“We really don’t know what’s going on.

“It’s strange. All of a sudden, bang, no football. It’s a hard one to take but people’s health is the most important thing here, even though it’s frustrating.

“I hope that all the players and their families are safe, there are bigger things than football.”
