Tayport lifted their first silverware for six years when they defeated Dundee North End 4-1 to win the inter-regional GA Engineering Cup at Tannadice Park.
Both sides had early chances, with Kris Rollo and Alan Tulleth going close for ’Port, while North End pair Graeme Dailly and James McCabe should have done better with headers from good positions.
The opening goal came on 15 minutes following a spell of Tayport pressure when Dale Robertson stretched out a leg to guide the ball into the corner of the net.
Alan Tulleth and Gary Sutherland had chances before the break and, at the other end, David Rae strode forward from defence and was just off-target with a long-range effort.
A wonderful strike by Stefan Elvin doubled the advantage four minutes into the second half.
Grant Lawson found the tenacious midfielder with a neat lay-off and Elvin sent a fantastic, low, curling shot around Mackie and into the corner of the net from the edge of the box.
On the hour the Canniepairt men extended their advantage when Gary Sutherland pounced on some slack defending to rifle his shot into the back of the net.
Tulleth then smacked the post as Tayport looked to run away with the match only for the Dokens to pull a goal back on 70 minutes, courtesy of Scott McComiskie. But Dave Baikie’s men went in search of number four.
Tulleth, flashed a shot wide, Grant Lawson had an effort saved, Kevin Milne shot over the top and Tulleth hit the side-netting from a tight angle.
In injury-time captain Lawson took advantage of substitute Neil Docherty’s intervention and rounded off a fantastic evening by skipping away from the North End defence and clipping an exquisite left-footed finish beyond Mackie.
