Glenrothes gaffer is on the run for charity

Glenrothes FC may be on an enforced lay-off from sport, but that isn’t stopping co-boss John Martin from staying active.

John will be pounding the streets as he takes part in a charity fundraiser to help raise cash for Cancer Research UK.

Throughout February the former East Fife striker will run 56 miles as part of the charity’s UK wide Run 56 Miles Challenge.

At the time of writing, before John has even started his venture, the co-boss had already raised a terrific £425.

“I’ve decided to do the run of 56 miles in the month of February to help raise some funds to a charity close to my heart,” he said.

“I think you will all join me in saying we have lost loved ones friends and family to this illness.

“Those who know me know I hate running but I want to set myself this challenge just so I give a little back, so any donations will be greatly appreciated.

“Together we will beat cancer.

The East of Scotland League side remain scheduled to return to the football pitch for competitive action on February 6.

However, that re-start date is looking increasingly ambitious by the day.

In a bid to get their seasons up and running again, the nation’s League One and Two sides have submitted a proposal to the SFA outlining safe ways they can return to training, with improved testing, in mid-February.
