The Glens came out on top, cruising to a 4-0 win.

That scoreline did not flatter them either as Thornton gave the impression that they’d enjoyed their festivities just a little too much over the previous two days.

With barely 60 seconds played, Andy Warrender came to the Hibs’ rescue with a fine save to deny Conor Schiavone but he was powerless to prevent the same man from converting Lea Schiavone’s free-kick.

Garry Thomson Jnr had a great chance to equalise in the 15th minute but Adam Shaw saved with ease and, to be honest, the Glenrothes goalie could just have gone home then so little did he have to do after that.

There was no more scoring in the first half, although Murray Carstairs was desperately unlucky with a terrific volley from outside the area.

Graeme Walker doubled Glenrothes’ advantage ten minutes into the second half and, five minutes later, Lea Schiavone made it three with the Hibs defence appealing in vain that Andrew McDonald had been offside in the lead-up to the goal.

Lea Schiavone completed the scoring three minutes from the end by stroking the ball into the net from close range to give the hosts an emphatic victory.
