Glenrothes leave it until late stages

There were mixed fortunes for the local amateur sides whose games survived the inclement weather on Saturday, writes Shane Fenton.

A last minute goal saw Glenrothes Strollers edge all three points in their Kingdom of Fife Division 1 clash with Kirkcaldy Blues.

In the same division there were home defeats for both Kennoway Star Hearts and Leslie Hearts.

The latter lost out 3-2 against Hearts of Beath at a windswept Quarry Park.

The visitors used the elements to their benefit in the first half and went in 2-0 in front.

Matthew Harper pulled a goal back for the home side after the restart before Beath restored their 2 goal advantage, Kevin MacGillivary added a second for Leslie, a leveller however eluded them and Beath took all three points in a 3-2 win. After two high scoring wins, Kennoway Star Hearts were brought back down to earth losing 4-1 at home to Kinross Colts ‘B’.

Despite dropping their first points of the season, Markinch Amateurs increased their lead at the top of the KFA Championship.

A late 25 yard strike from Josh Wilson salvaged a point for the John Dixon Park side in a 1-1 draw with Fife Thistle.

With closest challengers Freuchie suffering a 7-0 loss in their away clash with Burntisland United, Markinch stretched their advantage at the top to four points.

The game between Rosyth and Glenrothes Amateurs was postponed as was the Premier League game at Coaltown between Balgonie Scotia and Kennoway.
