Ambitious plans for a new clubhouse, community rooms and cafe for one of the town’s most popular sports clubs has taken a step closer to becoming reality after being granted planning approval by Fife Council.
With planning approval needing to be in place before Sportscotland would consider their £250,000 worth of funding, a final decision regarding the go-ahead for the £733,000 Glenrothes Strollers Football Club facility is expected to be made next month.
“With all other funding now in place it was crucial that we secured planning approval in order for Sportscotland to be able to make a decision on its funding request, ,” said John Buchanan, Stroller’s chairman.
He added: “We can’t take anything for granted as there are lots of others applying of funding but we have worked extremely hard to produce a business report and to show how this facility will benefit not only the club, but the wider community for generations to come.
“The club has had to raise ten per cent of the cost and support from the public and businesses has been vital to our bid.
“Also we must thank Fife Council which has given the club substantial financial support in what are difficult times economically.”
If Sportscotland grants its financial support for the project construction work could start as early as February 2016, with a the facility completed by the summer.
