Glens on cloud nine as promotion secured in style

Glens required three points from their final two games to go up but the emphatic victory over the North Division’s bottom club has avoided the prospect of a nervy promotion decider against rivals Blairgowrie in the final league game of the season this Saturday.

It means Benny Andrew’s side have bounced back to the East Premier League at the first time of asking following last year’s relegation.

Prior to the start of the last night’s game there was a minute’s applause for Glens physio George Adam who passed away at the weekend.

Glens got off to the best possible start when they opened the scoring in the first minute through Martin.

It was all one way traffic and it was a surprise that it took until the 14th minute for the hosts to increase thier lead when the Albion right back was unfortunate in putting into his own net.

Six minutes later Falconer made it number three and Glens were already well on their way to the Premier League.

The half hour mark arrived and Glens ‘keeper Small had still not touched the ball.

Glens went further ahead on 34 minutes when Martin was on hand to tap the ball in after the ‘keeper had spilled a shot from Anderson.

Andrew made a double substitution at the start of the second half as Newman and Paterson replaced Kinnes and Falconer.

As in the first half Glens scored within a minute when Newman finished off the goal of the night with a curling shot from the edge of the box into the top left hand side of the net.

The away team got on the score sheet in a rare attack on 55 minutes when a long range shot ended up in the back of the net.

It took Glens until the 65th minute to score number six through Newman but the hosts saved their best for the closing stages when they hit the net three times in a four minute spell.

First Moffat made it 7-1 then both Newman and Martin completed their hat-tricks to round off a great night for Glenrothes.
