Kirriemuir Thistle 6 Thornton Hibs 1

In keeping with this time of year, Thornton’s first-half performance was an absolute horror show – all that was missing was the scary clown masks!

And yet they started the game positively but fell behind to a bizarre goal in the 24th minute.

Gary Archibald hit a free-kick from inside his own-half that somehow bounced into the net with the appeals to the referee that Matthew Clark had been impeded falling on deaf ears.

If that was bad then worse was to follow when shambolic defending allowed Darren Scott the opportunity to double his side’s lead.

Another two goals from Ryan Strachan and Bryan Duell before half-time killed this game as a contest.

The second half had to better for the Hibs and to be fair they began it in the same fashion they started the first except they were rewarded for their possession with a goal from leading scorer, Garry Thomson, in the 61st minute.

It all started to go wrong again when first Daniel McNab and then Ian Hepburn were ordered off for second yellow card offences leaving the nine men with an impossible task.

Kirrie took advantage of numerical superiority to score another twice, both of them coming from Bryan Duell in the last few minutes.
