The Stark’s Park boss will have a minor operation today (Friday) just 24 hours before his side kick off against East Fife in the Betfred Cup.

Assistant boss Paul Smith will lead the team into the Fife derby tomorrow (Saturday) and says the gaffer has helped with preparations as he normally would.

"Between John and I we’ve set everything up from his hospital bed,” he said.

"We always work a couple of weeks in advance anyway so the preparation has been exactly the same as it would have been if John was here.

"John and I have done what we always do. We’ve picked the team together, though John has the final say on the team of course.

"We’ve gone through everything as we normally would as we get ready for East Fife.”

He added: "Everything is normal.”
