John Ovenstone’s side are chasing an immediate return back to the Super League having dropped down a level.

And it promises to be tough first test back in the Premier League as Tranent, boosted over the summer by the signing of former Rangers and Hibs midfielder Kevin Thomson, arrive at the Canniepairt.

Having once cost £2 million and taken part in the UEFA Cup Final, Thomson will be the league’s star man, but Tayport boss John Ovenstone says his team will not be overawed.

““Playing Tranent is going to be a big test for us, but one man doesn’t make a team,” said the gaffer.

“It’s going to be 11 against 11 and I have faith that my players can rise to the challenge.”

The visitors have only just been promoted to the Premier League, after winning the South Division title, losing only one match.

It’s been all change on the playing front at Tayport during the course of the summer.

Regulars, like Gregor Anderson, Kris Rollo, Gary Sutherland have left the club.

There have been plenty of arrivals though.

Greg Sturrock, Grant Mowatt and Scott McDowall joined up from Montrose Roselea.

Jamie Mackie returned to the club and Kieran Conway, Liam Ross and David Geekie have been added.
