The centre-back , who turns 30 this month, was not only delighted to get his first goal of the campaign in the 2-1 win over Dundee United, but also to prove a point to goalkeeper coach Wayne Henderson.

Barr had been the subject of pre-match goading as Henderson pointed out that he had yet to get his name of the scoresheet this season.

But after breaking his duck against United, Barr explained: "Wazza, the goalie coach, had a go at me this morning for not scoring this season.

"He was on my case, so I celebrated by running over to the dug-out to ram it down his throat! I was just telling him not to question me again.

"It's always good to contribute and to get a win makes it even better.

"For the first time in a while we can enjoy the weekend and hopefully we can kick on.

"We've just to keep battling and fighting and results will come."

The victory came just seven days after the terrible 4-0 defeat at Dumbarton, a performance heavily criticised by manager John Hughes.

Barr, however, insisted the boss was right to have a go at the team.

"Last week was terrible," he said. "We were embarrassed and it ruins your weekend.

"Everyone that knows the gaffer, knows it comes down to brutal honesty from him.

"Sometimes you'll like it, sometimes you won't.

"As players you can't be pampered or paper over the cracks, sometimes you need to hear the truth and whatever he says, he backs it up with experience.

"He's our manager and we respect him. Nine times of out 10 he's right, although he'll say 10 times out of 10!

"He put his thoughts across during the week and I don't disagree with what he said.

"The truth sometimes hurts and it maybe gave us the kick up the backside. I'm just glad we reacted and hopefully we can carry it on."
