I'm sure we'll bounce back

East Fife weren't at their best when they went down 2-1 to Brechin on Saturday - but nobody knows that better than the squad.

That’s according to boss Barry Smith who says his side knew themselves they didn’t live up to the high standards they’ve set this season when they went down to Andy Jackson’s late winner.

Because of this he’s confident of a positive reaction when the side enters into two games within the space of a few of days this week.

East Fife were scheduled to play a rearranged fixture last night (Tuesday) against Albion Rovers as we were going to press.

The game was called off last week due to snow.

Then comes the arrival of Queen’s Park to Bayview as the pursuit for a play-off place heats up.

And Smith expects his side to be back to its best when Gus MacPherson brings the Spiders to Fife.

“The boys know they didn’t play as well as they could have on Saturday,” said Smith.

“We would have taken a point from the game given how we were playing so it’s disapointing to lose a goal as late as we did.

“In the dressing room after the game everybody knew we didn’t play to our potential.”

East Fife have been on a decent enough run of form with a previous blip coming a few weeks back at Alloa Athletic when the side went down 3-0.

After that game Smith called for a positive reaction from his side when they faced Albion Rovers a few days later.

It was a challenge they answered by seeing off Rovers 2-0.

The Bayview boss wants to see a similar response this week.

He said: “I’ve no reason to believe that I’ll not get the same reaction this week that I did before because of the group boys that are at the club.

“The positive thing for me after the Brechin defeat was the way the boys were reacting after the game.

“Gus MacPherson always has his team well organised and, like us, they’ve had a very good season after just being promoted last year.

“The last game, which finished 2-2 at Hampden, proved how closely the sides are matched.

“They’re a side who we need to be better than and try to break down.

“I know we have the creative players at the club who can do that.

“We also need to make sure we’re disciplined in our positions like we have been doing recently.”

The club’s injury list ahead of the game shows no sign of easing off, with Smith expecting it to be added to this week.

“Jonathan Page is doubtful for the weekend,” said the manager.

“Mark Lamont will be out and Luke Watt pulled up in a development game.

“It looks to be a bit of scar tissue from his injury which can happen.”

Kyle Wilkie and Tony Wallace remain out until the end of the season.
