However, the Mariners drew their Scottish Cup tie at Kilwinning last Saturday and that replay takes precedence and will be played tomorrow.

It is frustrating for ‘Port, who have now won two league games on the bounce and were keen to keep momentum going.

Instead, they will have to wait until Saturday, March 26, when they play host to Broxburn.

“It’s a bit disappointing, as we can’t wait to get back into action,” said assistant manager Steve Kerrigan.

“We’ve given ourselves a fighting chance of staying in the top division by winning against Newtongrange and Penicuik and winning breeds confidence.”

Reflecting on the comeback win against Cuikie, the side having been 2-0 down before coming back to win 4-2, Kerrigan said: “It was a massive three points for us.

“We were disappointed to lose two soft goals in the opening half hour, but, crucially, we pulled one back before half-time.

“We were delighted to see the players show so much character and we went on to create numerous chances in the second half.”

Two-goal hero Matt Adam was given a special mention, after his late brace had earned the three points.

“I was really pleased for Matty,” added Kerrigan “He has been really patient and has worked hard at training.”
