Scottish women’s football has never been as competitive as it is in 2021.
The success of the World Cup in 2019, and Scotland’s participation in it, has grown interest in the women’s game more than ever before.
Store windows on Glasgow’s Argyle Street now depict highly rated striker Erin Cuthbert in their window, inspiring young girls across Scotland to strive to be the next star to wear the famous navy jersey.
With 2020 seeing even more Scottish clubs making their women’s set-up fully professional, the future is bright on the domestic and international front after being underappreciated for far too many years.
So on international women’s day we decided, in no particular order, to take a look at Scotland’s top 10 women footballers that are inspiring a generation of girls.

. Kim Little (Arsenal)
Potentially the greatest Scottish women's footballer ever, Little has won BBC Women's Footballer of the Year, PFA Women's Players' Player of the Year and no less than six titles during a magnificent career. 5. Nicola Docherty (Rangers)
Scotland's first choice left back has won multiple titles with Glasgow City and is currently on course for another with her current side Rangers. Forming part of Scotland World Cup squad in 2019, Docherty is one of the best full backs in Scotland. Photo: Contributed

6. Claire Emslie (Everton)
Edinburgh born Claire Emslie has been part of the Scotland set up since 2013 and scored Scotland Women's first ever goal at a World Cup when she scored against England Lionesses in 2019. Learning her trade in the US with college side Florida Atlantic Owls, she has turned out for giants such as Manchester City and Orlando Pride, while scoring seven goals in 30 Scotland caps. 7. Caroline Weir (Manchester City)
The 25-year-old Scot has been Scotland's stand out player over the last year, delighting fans and pundits alike with a wide range of tricks, technique and skill most of can only dream of. 8. Lee Alexander (Glasgow City)
Alexander has been Scotland number one since 2017 and famously saved a spot kick against Poland in the World Cup qualifiers, which played a huge part in getting Scotland to the tournament in 2019. Current number one of SPFL reigning champions Glasgow City, Rutherglen born Alexander is inspiring a generation of girls to play in between the sticks. Photo: Contributed
