The centre half made his 500th senior appearance as the Bayview men beat Forfar 1-0.

Having also played with Clyde, Dunfermline Athletic, Queen of the South and Ayr United, Higgins, still only 34-years-old, remains as fit as ever.

His current boss, Darren Young, heaped praise on the defender and says the youngsters at Bayview should look up to Higgins as an example as they try to make their way in the game.

Young said: "When he first arrived he was still trying to get himself back fit after a spell out injured.

"But we're seeing the best of him this season.

"It's a testament to him that he's played 500 games; he's a great influence around the club and a leader.

"He is still one of these guys who'll stay behind after training and do extra.

"That's just how he's been brought up and he's someone our younger players should look up to."
