Golf guidance remains unchanged

St Andrews based Scottish Golf says the announcements made during the week by first minister, Nicola Sturgeon, on the gradual easing of lockdown restrictions have no effect on the game north of the border.

Scottish golfers have been able to enjoy time on the course, while respecting Covid-19 guidance, for some weeks.

In England they haven’t been so lucky, with a return to local courses not now permitted until March 29 at the earliest.

Despite our privileged position, Scottish Golf has again made golfers aware of their responsibilities to help ensure the sport stays open for play.

A statement this week said: “Following the First Minister’s latest update on Covid-19 restrictions, please note that there is no change to the current position for golf.

"This means: Golf courses can remain open for play with a maximum of two players from up to two households.

"Outdoor coaching will be restricted to two people, including the coach, for those 12 years or over.

"Under 12s do not count towards the number so a coach can take larger groups of up to 30 U12s.

"Golfers must stay close to home, travel only for essential purposes, which includes golf as part of the permitted exercise activities, and in line with the new legislation.

"The next update is not anticipated until mid-March.”

Should anything change between now and then, Scottish Golf says it will keep clubs up to date on its designated Covid-19 page at scottishgolf.org
