Sporting Memories are an organisation who bring together older adults to talk about and remember sport.

Those adults, who attend online or community-based clubs may be isolated, or living with depression, dementia or other long-term conditions.

In Fife two clubs have been launched, one on Kirkcaldy and another in Glenrothes, with the group now reaching out to sports fans in the north east of the Kingdom.

On Tuesday afternoon local people tuned in to the first of a series of Zoom calls to reminisce about their iconic sporting moments and take part in quizzes.

Tayport have been part of the fabric of sporting life in the area for decades, and were keen to show their support.

Pete McEleny from the club said: "We think that working with Sporting Memories is a great way for the club to create more community links and we’re really up for being involved.

"The virtual club is a great idea and everyone from Tayport is on board."

Gary Waddell, Sporting Memories foundation group practice coordinator, said the organisation was "really excited” to launch the new virtual club.

"We believe there are lots of older adults in the area who have a passion for talking about sport and who will benefit from attending a weekly group with like-minded people,” he added.
