Looking back at Saints' greatest moments and players

St Andrews United Football Club turns 99 years old this coming Sunday and we are marking the occasion with a picture special showing images from the team's rich history.

St Andrews United, who now play in the East of Scotland League, managed by Andy Brown, were formed on the 17th of May 1921 by members of the local United Services Association. The United Services Association was a government funded organisation that sought to look after ex-servicemen and their dependants in the wake of World War One.

Recreation Park was officially opened in 1922 and football has been played at the ground ever since.

Committee member Donald Gellatly said: "St Andrews United has enjoyed three golden periods throughout the last 99 years, during the late 1920s, early 1960s and late 1980s, as well as enduring several periods of financial hardship.

"However, the club's greatest achievement came on the 21st of May 1960 when the Scottish Junior Cup was won at Hampden Park in front of 34,603 people.

"Unfortunately, some of the events planned to celebrate the club's forthcoming centenary have been postponed due to coronavirus but new dates will be announced in the press when it is safe to do so. "
