In pictures: Raith Rovers vying with Bayern Munich for UEFA Cup glory 25 years ago

It’s 25 years ago this Saturday, October 31, since Raith Rovers dared to dream of UEFA Cup glory after taking the lead away to German giants Bayern Munich.

Inevitably, that dream wasn’t to last as the Bavarians, already 2-0 up from a first-leg game played at Easter Road in Edinburgh two weeks previously, went on to score another two after half-time to outdo Danny Lennon’s opener, win 4-1 on aggregate and proceed to win the cup.

It was good while it lasted, though, and fans of the Kirkcaldy side will always have their memories of those precious minutes when the unlikeliest of cup upsets briefly seemed possible.
