The Canniepairt side haven’t played a competitive game since a 3-1 away win at East Craigie on December 19 last year.

It was the club’s fourth league win in what had been a flawless, all-be-it short, start to the new McBookie.com East Region Premiership North campaign.

The season was suspended before Tayport had the chance to take to the field again, with players now out of action for over two months.

With Macpherson unable to gather his squad to even train while they wait for the green light to start again, he admits the responsibility is entirely on their shoulders to stay fit.

And that’s something he says he knows they’ve been working hard on away from the Canniepairt.

Speaking to tayportfc.org, the manager said: “We have a tight-knit team and the boys are in regular contact.

"Several of them are following fitness programs, this is in addition to timed runs.

"I take my hat off to the players for their focus and motivation, they have certainly not dropped their standards when it comes to training on their own.”

Macpherson concedes that the lay-off came at the worst possible time for his side who were motoring during the early part of the season.

He added: “We were on a good run of form, feeling confident and the general feeling I got was that there was much more to come from us.”
