Alex McDowall, chief operating officer for the Scottish Junior FA, said: “Following the update from the Scottish Government stating that adult contact training and football will not be allowed until May 17, the management committee of the Scottish Junior FA have decided to end season 2020/2021 and declare all competitions null and void.

"We can now set our sights on moving forward and hopefully welcoming fans back at some point in the new season.

"This decision gives us all some clarity and the opportunity to look at starting next season a bit earlier than normal. Further details will be announced in due course.

"Please continue to follow the Scottish Government guidelines and stay safe.”

Tayport had raced out the traps in their start to the season, taking a full 12 points from the four games played.

Although one ‘Port side will now be out of action for the next couple of months, another has benefited from recent governmental announcements.

Tayport FC’s walking football team, on the back of the decision to allow training and exercise outdoors for up to 15 people, is now preparing to lace up the boots again. After consultation with Walking Football Scotland, the club’s over 50s walking football team will resume training on Friday, March 19 from 11.00am until noon.

Strict rules will apply, and training must be non-contact.

Social distancing when arriving and leaving must be observed.

A delighted spokesman for the team said: “The other good news is that the walking football team will now be training at the club’s home ground, the Canniepairt.”

The walking football team is looking for men or women who want to get involved.
