April showers, well April monsoon, would be more apt as the players struggled to get to terms with dreadful overhead conditions.

St Andrews went close when an effort from Anthony rebounded back off the crossbar.

The visitors looked the more settled team in the opening stages and Falconer brought out a routine stop from home `keeper Paterson when the striker elected to shoot when a pass inside would have proved the more profitable.

The conditions had spectators rushing for cover as the rain was having as much an impact on the proceedings as the two sets of players.

KSH had a few half chances as the half progressed with Partridge heading wide from a Band corner kick then M.Gay saw a mazy run halted with a great piece of defending just when the forward looked likely to score.

Five minutes before the break the deadlock was broken when C.Gay was tripped inside the penalty area leaving the officials with little choice as a penalty was awarded.

Wilson stepped up and calmly sent the `keeper to the opposite corner as he rolled the ball into the net for a lead against the run of play.

St Andrews produced the move of the half with Wallace and Anthony combining on the right for the latter to drill a low cross along the six yard line for Falconer to slot from close range.

Thankfully the second half started with some sunshine as both sets of players returned to the pitch intent on taking the three points for their respective teams.

KSH looked more purposeful as they started to have more possession in the last third.

A corner kick from the right saw Partridge guide a header on target from six yards out.

The ball was blocked by a defender only for Binnington to smash a shot of the underside of the crossbar as the hosts upped the pressure.

Minutes later a Wilson header was clawed to safety by the agility of the St Andrews shot stopper. Almost immediately the ball was swept back into the box from Band where C.Gay saw his glancing header touched on to the post again by the Saints `keeper .

In the final minute a long range free kick from Hendry looked destined for the top corner of the net.
