Whitburn got the equaliser their play deserved when another in-swinging corner caused panic in the home defence. This time Skinner was on hand to nod home from four yards as he evaded his marker. It was backs to the wall for the home side and Paterson pulled off a spectacular save to deny Russell as his shot from the edge of the box looked destined for the bottom corner. The pressure was mounting and Bain passed up a further two chances as he failed to hit the target, firstly a corner again causing some concern for the home defence fell to the player`s feet then a header that went wide.

Two minutes before half time KSH showed their quality in attack when Wilson ghosted in behind the Whitburn defence to rifle a venomous strike that ripped into the side rigging leaving Horne helpless.

The game settled into a more even contest with both team`s battling away trying to gain the upper hand.

KSH again went close when Craig had a direct run from wide right but his shot narrowly missed the target as Horne scrambled low to his right.
