Kennoway come out on top at pre-season tournament

Kennoway Star Hearts made the short journey south for their visit to Recreation Park for a four team tournament involving host team Roysth JFC, Berwick Rangers and Tynecastle.

The first game of the day saw Tynecastle progress into the final on Sunday with a solid 2-0 win over Berwick Rangers.

The second game saw Kennoway Star Hearts run out 5-3 winners with a goal laden match played in good spirits with both teams having to contend with a strong wind.

KSH goals were scored by Kyle Wilson with a hat trick backed up by a Gavin Gray effort and debut goal for Mathew Gay.

The final was the only game played on the Sunday due to Berwick being unable to field a team.

Tynecastle weathered an early storm from KSH who had looked in control for the first twenty minutes. Tynecastle who had Rangers captain Lee Wallace as one of their coaches took the lead with a headed effort from a corner kick.

A few minutes later they were awarded a penalty but Sutherland saved well to keep the score at 1-0.

Kennoway continued to have the bulk of the ball and chances from Gray and Shaw went close.

A few minutes before half time Tynecastle were reduced to ten men .

The second half saw Tynecastle defend resolutely with Wilson,Band and Shaw all going close.

Wilson notched an equaliser after he converted a Doig cross and the game finished 1-1.

Penalties were to decide the contest with Sutherland saving two and Band scoring to secure the win and a nice confidence booster for the club ahead of the season.
