It will mark a huge turnaround for the former Kirkcaldy YM and Dysart teams, stepping up from junior level following their amalgamation in the summer of 2019, with strides made to improve the new club on and off the park.

The results are there for all to see, with new signage and facilities around the ground and screening surrounding the pitch itself.Of course, such improvements come at a cost meaning there was little left over for manager Craig Ness to spend on his squad for the new season. However, he insists he has no complaints.

“I’m more than happy with the squad I have,” he said.

“I haven't managed at East of Scotland level before so I don't know what I have to do to be successful.

“What I can base it on is where I feel we were at last year and ask are we better now? And, 100%, we are.

“We've strengthened in all areas and we've brought in exciting players like John Souttar and John Smith.

“We've got young guys of 19 and 20 who are finding their feet and other guys like Chris Ireland and Sam Buchan who have great experience.“The quality has definitely improved and we are definitely in a better place squad-wise.

"We might have the smallest budget in the league, but I don't feel it reflects the quality that is in the squad.“This year is all about seeing where this squad is in the East of Scotland and consolidate.

“As long as we're competitive and as long as we show that quality, we'll be OK.”

Vice-chairman Alistair Cameron says he is “super proud” of everyone who has been involved in the remarkable turnaround performed by the joint venture."There’s the committee and the volunteers, and people in the community have been very complimentary about what we are doing,” he said.

He also revealed that the club are keen to find a volunteer to carry out social media duties.

"It’s a key element that we haven’t got yet and we’re desperately looking for someone.

"At the moment we’re doing it ourselves but we need someone to come in who has an interest in football, likes doing social media, would like to be part of the club’s committee and the exciting new set up we have here.

"He or she would play an integral part in what we are trying to do here. They would loook after our Facebook, Twitter and website, write the match reports and manager interviews.

"It’s a really nice job for someone.”

Back on the park and Craigroyston are the visitors for Saturday’s historic match and manager Ness says the changes around the club will help give the players a lift.

"It gives me a boost as well as the players” he said.
