AMsoccer Club’s first fixture of the new term had a touch of familiarity about it, with a trip to Denbeath on the opening day for the third time in four seasons.

Despite a strong start to life in amateur football, AM had never beaten their Levenmouth rivals – until Saturday.

AMsoccer opened the scoring thanks to a well-worked set play that resulted in Lawson rising to head past the home keeper.

It should have been two when Aedan Brown intercepted a square pass and burst through on goal but he sliced his shot wide.

Some good movement in the Denbeath attack had offered warning signs for the AM defence but Liam Hart slipped through to latch on to a tidy pass and convert low past Pratt in the AM goal to make it 1-1.

Denbeath had their tails up and Hart worked some space in the box before thumping the outside of the post.

Galloway responded for AM, turning 30 yards out and firing a stinging shot that slipped under the ‘keeper but didn’t cross the line.

AM recaptured the lead, though, as Galloway picked out Davidson with a cross. His header hit the post and fell for Lawson to convert his second goal.

The second half was much more tame, with chances at a premium. AMsoccer’s rearguard was tested in the last 20 minutes but organisation and bravery ensured this young team was the first to take three points from this fixture.
