United impressed on Saturday against league leaders Forfar West End despite taking nothing from the game in a 1-0 defeat.

Forfar’s goal came from a set-piece and gave the visitors something to hold onto.

Boss Morrison wants Saints to learn the lessons from the loss as they aim to kick on up the division.

He said: “We played very well - our performance was good.

“But Forfar got their goal from a set-piece and it’s something we will have to learn from.

“It gave them a chance to sit in with a deep line and defend their lead.

“We couldn’t break them down and in the second half I don’t think our ‘keeper had a save to make.

“In terms of performance, from my first game against Tayport to Saturday, it’s much better.

“We just need to work on a few things from the game.

“We have the quality but one goal from a set-piece can be the difference.

“It’s a cut throat league.”

Despite frustration at the manner of the goal given away at the weekend, Morrison was content with the work rate and application of his players.

He’s hoping they retain that this Saturday when the side hosts Bathgate Thistle, a club which sits just one place and one point behind Saints in the league.

“We’ve had the players back in for training and went over Saturday’s game and the goal we lost ahead of the weekend,” said Morrison.

“Training has been really positive.

“Bathgate is a big game for us.

“They’re behind us but have two games in hand - the league is really tight down there.

“At the start of the season the team went to Bathgate and got a win so that can maybe give us that psychological edge.

“They’re a side I’ve watched and seen videos of and are one of those clubs who I’d say are in a bit of a false league position.

“If we can do the things we did well on Saturday and take the positives from that game then we can be confident.”
