Strathmiglo United 2, Leven United 3

Two and a half weeks after the last league game of the season, Strathmiglo met Leven United in the final of the Fence’N’Deck Cup at Star of Markinch last Friday evening.

Despite a bright start by both teams, Strath found themselves two goals down in the opening quarter, with a header from Muir and a MacRae free kick doing the damage.

Leven were buoyed by the goals and Hamilton denied Muir and Austin.

Strath settled and had chances too, notably efforts from White and O’Hanlon, which were stopped by ‘keeper Gear and a peach of a cross from Craig Robinson was crying out for a taker.

After the break, the end to end stuff continued as Hamilton saved from Herd, Craig Robinson saw his effort cleared, while Skinner and Fraser Robinson came close, before Strath were caught on the break when Austin made it three for Leven.

In the hectic final quarter, Strath showed their mettle in a last throw of the dice.

Graeme Robinson scored a couple of fine goals in quick succession and hit the crossbar as well.

It was too little too late but, despite the early setback, Strath played well and made Leven fight for victory.
