Thornton Hibs exited the East Region Cup after a 3-1 defeat to Livingston United following a pretty lacklustre display at Station Park.
Their day got off to the worst possible start when, in the very first minute, Jimmy Shields dislocated his shoulder, an injury which left him in serious discomfort.
The Hibs suffered a further blow when Livi opened the scoring in the 37th minute when Kieran McGurk sped through the middle of the Hibs’ defence before coolly slotting the ball behind the advancing Jamie Roberts.
Thorton got themselves back into the game when Stuart Drummond headed the equaliser in the 59th minute after Shaun Keatings’ corner-kick had been nodded into his path by Adam Drummond.
However, just 10 minutes later the hosts regained the lead in the 69th minute when Max Coleman brought down McGurk with Bryan Jaconelli scoring from the resultant penalty kick.
A low drive from Jason Gregory completed the scoring in the 82nd minute and the Hibs’ day of woe was completed in the 89th minute when Keatings was shown a second yellow card and sent off.
Next up for Hibs is Kirriemuir Thistle at home in the East Superleague. After four games Hibs are fourth and Thistle are tenth. Lochee United lead the way in first.
