Fossoway were the visitors to Markinch for this third round cup-tie with a young Lomond United side which is still going through the process of being re-built.
Fossoway are at top of First Division with Lomond at the bottom and this new young inexperienced Lomond side had lost their first five games.
After only three minutes Alex Simpson’s side went 1-0 in front after some good work from Hunter, forcing the defender to clear the ball straight to Brunton whose cross was met in the box by Wyllie who nodded home.
Things got even better when Hunter again did well to win the ball from a defender and his cross to the front post to Hastie saw Lomond’s new striker turn his marker and fire low past the ‘keeper.
However, on 43 minutes Fossoway pulled a goal back.
Straight from the re-start Lomond broke forward with Thomson cutting in from the left and firing in a shot which hit the up-right and fell to Hunter whose first time effort was brilliantly saved.
Fossoway saw more of the ball but when Lomond did get forward they still had chances to add a third.
Frustrations grew in the visiting ranks as they couldn’t break down the Lomond defence and on 75 minutes Fossoway had a player shown a straight red card.
Both sides fought right to the end but it was Lomond United who are through to the quarter finals.
Boss Simpson said: “A great result for this new Lomond squad.
“There’s still plenty hard work to be done in the coming months as we continue to rebuild the club on the field, but this result certainly was down to the effort of everyone on the pitch.”
