A poor second half cost Newburgh at Brownlands Park.

The ‘Burgh faced Luncarty, who were yet to drop a point in the league, with new signing Andy Wainwright in the middle of the park making his debut.

Newburgh created a half chance in the tenth minute with Scott Sutherland unable to get the ball under control from a Scarborough diagonal ball.

The game looked to be deadlocked as half time approached.

Newburgh had a corner that came to nothing and a quick break out by Luncarty caught Newburgh on their heels. A driven cross from the left-hand side was met by Mills who made no mistake from six yards out to provide the home side with the half time advantage.

The Luncarty side who came out in the second half were keen to add to their lead and they attacked from the off. An Anton penalty conversion that just slipped under Sutherland gave Luncarty the comfort of the second goal in the 51st minute.

Luncarty added goals from Fergus in the 58th minute and when Newburgh thought things couldn’t get much worse a fourth goal was added when a Mollison cross evaded everyone and looped under the bar in the 60th minute.

Scott Hudson shuffled his pack introducing Fraser for Elseedawy, Edwards for Leadbetter and Ben Jenkins made his competitive debut replacing Sutherland.

A fifth goal for Luncarty in the 69th minute was added by Green before Yates rounded off the scoring.

Manager Scott Hudson said: “This is a harsh lesson for the lads.

“We cannot afford to switch off against the top teams which is what happened in the second half.

“It is really disappointing as we more that held our own and were probably the better team in the first half.
