Martin steps down as Glenrothes boss

The 31-year-old player-boss informed the club committee of his decision over the weekend, stating that he wanted to spend more time with his young family.

Coach Willie Campbell is to step up as caretaker manager until the end of the season.

Former Raith Rovers and East Fife striker Martin is contracted to the Glens until the end of the season, and the Gazette understands he has not requested to be put on the transfer list or released from his playing contract.

Glens are currently 11th in the East Premier League and sit five points clear of relegation danger with games in hand over the teams immediately below them.

Campbell’s first match in charge is away to ninth-placed Haddington Athletic this Saturday.

Meanwhile, Glens have launched a desperate appeal for new committee members.

Due to ill health and old age, the club is in need of enthusiastic individuals to drive the club forward.

Acting chairman, John Hay, stated: “We are in a strong position to progress with the forthcoming amalgamation with Rothes Juniors into Glenrothes Juniors Community Club and things are looking very positive, but we need renewed energy within the committee to ensure the new community club gets off to the best start.”

Rothes Juniors chairman, Brian Dickson, added: “The creation of the Glenrothes Juniors Community Club is a very exciting project and is essential for the Glenrothes town.
