McGlynn happy with Raith Rovers’ strength in depth

Raith Rovers manager John McGlynn reckons his squad is as strong as any he has had during his time at the club.

The Stark’s Park boss was busy during a January transfer window which saw two players leave Kirkcaldy and four arriving.

Lars Lokotsch and Ethan Ross both returned to their parent clubs, with Kai Kennedy, Timmy Abraham, Adam King, Jamie Gullan all joining on loan until the end of the season.

McGlynn says he was sorry to see winger Ross leave after he was recalled by Aberdeen.

“He did very well for us. Like anyone who does well you would prefer to keep them rather than see them leave,” he said.

“It was a bit disappointing to lose him, but I know that he enjoyed his time with us, so hopefully he'll go back to Aberdeen with good memories of his time at Raith Rovers.”

With his squad bolstered by four new faces, McGlynn says he is delighted with the options he has to choose from.

“I don't think you can ever have enough good players. It's a long season and you don't know what's in front of you.

“We’re fighting on three fronts. There’s the league, there's the Scottish Cup and we’ ve still got a cup final against Inverness to play, so we've beefed up the squad to make it strong.

“We've got strength in depth. We’ve got players on the bench who can come off and make a difference.

“We’ve made the squad competitive so they need to fight for their positions.

“We want to make a push to stay as high up the table as we possibly can.”

Gullan has returned for his third spell in a Rovers jersey, something McGlynn describes as “incredible”.

He said: “We never thought for one minute we would get him back.”

He added: “Kai has hit the ground running and been playing brilliantly well. We are very fortunate to have him and I’ m sure that all the Rovers’ fans are enjoying watching him play.

“If you look at the strikers, Gozie Ugwu has been injured all season, so I have to try and cover myself in that natural number nine position.

“Manny Duku had a great start to the season, but he’s maybe not at the same level he was then, so we brought in Abraham. When Gozie comes back and Manny rediscovers his best form, then I think we have a tremendous strike force.”
