McGlynn rues lack of consistency after Raith Rovers slump to Fife derby defeat

Raith Rovers boss John McGlynn says his side are still searching for consistency after a thumping in the Fife derby against Dunfermline.

The 4-1 defeat was the latest result in a topsy-turvy string of results which saw them beat Hearts at Tynceastle for the first time in almost thirty years, crash to a 4-0 loss to the same opponent just three days later, then record a fine 3-1 win over fellow play-off challengers Dundee on Saturday.

Speaking after the match the Stark’s Park gaffer said: “We're looking for consistency, but every team in the land is looking for that.

“We were on a high at Tynecastle, we were on a low on the Tuesday night [4-0 defeat], we're on a high on Saturday after beating Dundee, and now we're on a low after tonight.

“We're disappointed. We came here after a good result at the weekend and we were looking to reinforce that and build on it."

McGlynn says it was a combination of sloppy play and clinical finishing by the Pars that was the difference between the two sides at East End Park.

"Dunfermline executed their chances,” he said, “I don't think there was anything in the first half whatsoever. It was a very close game in the first half.

“We're on the attack, probably three quarters of the way up the pitch, lose the ball, we're hit with a ball up the channel and Declan McManus has an easy, free run in on goal and we're hit with a goal out of nothing.

“We should be organising and shouldn't be caught like that.

“We were punished at the first goal and the second goal. We lose the ball in midfield and they score a very similar goal.

“We got back into on 64 minutes but three minutes later we gave away a cheap free kick and they executed it very well. We never gave ourselves a chance.

“At 2-1 you're back in the game and anything can happen but we didn't give ourselves that breathing space. 3-1 gives them that cushion again.”

He added: “Dunfermline were very clinical, they didn't miss too many chances and probably deserved to win.”
