The 23-year-old Clyde central defender signed a two-year pre-contract with the Kirkcaldy side this week and will join his new team mates at Stark’s Park in June.

McGlynn says he’d had his eye on the Englishman for a while.

"We feel Tom is at a perfect age. He's 23 now and has gained a lot of experience.

“He's a good size and has played a lot of first team football now and I feel he will be a good asset to us.

“He's a winner, he likes to win.

“I liked the look of him when he played for Clyde against us. I liked his attitude.

“He's an aggressive, no nonsense defender and at that age, that's perfect.

“He's coming from part time to full time football, though he has been full time in the past, but he'll benefit from that change and we'll benefit.

“It's a good opportunity for him to come here.

“In the last wee while we've brought a few players into the club, none of them were defenders so we're obviously looking at that all the time.

“We've got a number of defenders out of contract at the end of the season so we are looking to strengthen in those areas.”

McGlynn will now turn his attention to this Saturday’s home meeting with Ayr United in the Championship with his side sitting in second spot behind leaders Hearts.

“We need to try and find some consistency,” he said, “we've had some ups and downs recently. We've the highs of winning a game then going to the lows of losing.

“Ayr United have finished in the top four in the last two seasons. I think they're a good side.

“This will certainly not be an easy game. They've made a couple of signings, they've brought in a striker and a left back. They've signed Cammy Smith from Dundee United.

“They're a right good side so this will be a difficult game but one we have to go into with confidence.

“We're sitting in a good position with a fair number of points on the board. We're seven clear of Ayr United at the moment and to get a 10 point gap on them with 12 games to go after Saturday is a great incentive.

"We see Ayr United as a team who will be vying to get into the top four so for us this is almost a six pointer.”
